About

Lagos, Nigeria

A director who begins with emotion.

Peter Madu (Blacklens) is a creative director and photographer whose work explores storytelling through cinematic imagery. With experience spanning photography, commercial productions, music videos, documentaries and live events, he creates visuals that balance emotion, culture and precision.

Portrait of Peter Madu

His long-term vision is to become one of Africa’s defining music video and television commercial directors, recognised for creating visually distinctive work that resonates across cultures.

He came to film through photography, and it shows. Scenes are composed as stills first; movement is only introduced when the frame cannot say it alone. That discipline gives the work its stillness a sense that each image was waited for rather than captured.

The studio works with agencies, labels, production companies and brands who want more than coverage. Projects usually begin with a conversation about feeling and end with something quieter and more durable than the brief imagined.

  • Intentionality

Nothing arrives in the frame by accident.

  • Storytelling

    Structure before style, always.

  • Craftsmanship

Light, texture and timing, practised daily.

  • Culture

Work rooted in where it was made.

Creative Process

Four movements, repeated on every project.

  1. 01

    Listening

Before references, before boards: what is the feeling this should leave behind? We interrogate the brief until a single sentence survives.

  2. 02

    Language

A visual language is written — palette, lens, movement, cadence, casting. Each decision is defensible and each one can be removed.

  3. 03

    Making

Small crews, long days, in-camera wherever possible. The set is calm because the plan is clear.

  4. 04

    Finishing

Edit and grade in-house. The last pass is always subtraction — what can leave without weakening the story?
